Azerbaijani Political Emigrant that Came from Lithuania Arrested in Baku

The Khatai District Court of Baku on October 12 arrested the activist of the Musavat party Azad Hasanov, his lawyer Osman Kazimov told Turan.

According to the lawyer, he was informed about the arrest of Hasanov in the Khatai District Police Department. The investigation is carried out in the Baku Main Police Department. However, it is not yet known what Hasanov is accused of and for how long he is arrested. The lawyer was only told that the activist was detained in the Kurdakhani detention center.

Azad Hasanov in 2014 emigrated from Azerbaijan and received political asylum in Lithuania. On the night of October 11, he arrived in Baku due to the plight of his father and was detained by people in civilian clothes during the day. Only today, law enforcement authorities officially confirmed to the lawyer the arrest of the activist.

The activist is known for actively criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities in social networks for persecuting political prisoners.
